Hydrogen

Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe. When combined with oxygen, hydrogen releases energy as heat similar to hydrocarbons like gasoline, natural gas or propane.

NASA uses hydrogen when sending rockets into space. The program President Bush has announced regarding a manned moon presence and manned flight to Mars will be powered by hydrogen.

Currently, commercially available hydrogen is mostly extracted from hydrocarbons, but can also be separated from water through a process known as electrolysis. Electrolysis is the “cracking” of water into its primary components of hydrogen and oxygen with the use of an electrical current.

By extracting hydrogen from water, we can run existing internal combustion engines (ICEs) and fuel cells on a “forever fuel” that we can produce ourselves.

Neighborhood Energy exists to take advantage of this opportunity, to provide and use energy that is clean and sustainable.
